Tuesday, September 21st: IEFS General Body Meeting
  • Time and location: 5 - 6:30 PM, Tydings Hall, Room 1118
  • Content: Introduction to IEFS, Upcoming Events, Your Input, Registration, FUN! Free pizza and drinks!
  • Presentation: IEFS Open House Presentation

Wednesday, September 22nd: Career Preparation - co-hosted by BITS
  • Time and location: 5:30 - 6:30 PM, VMH 1511
  • Content: Refine your resume, learn how to land an interview and ace it! Prepare yourself for the recruiting season (The Career Fair comes up really soon!) with 1-on-1 advice from recruiting and human resource professionals!

Saturday, October 2nd: Six Flags (social/fundraising)
  • Time and location: 4 - 10:30 PM at Six Flags in Laurel, MD
  • Content: Help IEFS raise funds to further improve the quality of our services by working at Six Flags for an afternoon/evening. Better yet, do it with people you share interests with, make some new friends! Remember, elections are coming up in December, so get to meet some people and socialize. By joining IEFS for this social/fundraising event, your $10 membership fee will be waived or returned to you. If you're interested in going, please E-Mail Jennifer Tam as soon as possible at jtam@wam.umd.edu.
  • How to get there: We'll carpool from UMD, so let Jennifer know if you want to go and we will take care of the rest.
  • Important info: Look for an email from Jennifer in which she will outline some of the rules Six Flags has for taking part in this trip.

Tuesday, October 5th: Export-Import Bank
  • Time and location: 5 - 6:30 PM, Van Munching Hall 1412 (Rouse Room)
  • Speakers: John Emens, Vice President and Deputy Head of Finance Group ( CV); Mr. Emens will bring several of his colleagues to talk about different career paths at EX/IM.
  • Content: The Export-Import Bank supports the financing of U.S. goods and services, turning export opportunities into real transactions, maintaining and creating more U.S. jobs. EX-IM Bank employs finance, accounting, general business, international business, marketing, economics and logistics majors. Come find out if EX-IM is right for you! Learn more at www.exim.gov.

Tuesday, October 19th: General Body Meeting (BSA rescheduled)
  • Time and location: 5 - 6:30 PM, TYD 1118
  • Content: IEFS newsletter discussion, extensive information about the field trip on November 12th. Free pizza and sodas!
  • Note: BSA event will be rescheduled for this semester!

Tuesday, October 26th: Department of Commerce
  • Time and location: 5 - 6:30 PM, VMH 1202
  • Content: A 2003 UMD graduate now working for the trade sector of the DoC will talk about career paths and various economic issues. This event will provide excellent insight into the work of a government commerce institution and how to make a career there.

Tuesday, November 9th: Business Software Alliance (www.bsa.org)
  • Time and location: 5 - 6:30 PM, Room: VMH 1202
  • Speaker: Robert Crescanti, VP of Public Policy
  • Content: With programs in more than 60 countries worldwide, BSA is the foremost organization dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world. It is the voice of the world's commercial software industry, and its members represent one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Robert Cresanti will be speaking about global policies that foster innovation, growth, and a competitive marketplace for commercial software and related technologies. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about this intriguing industry, and to gain insight from a leader in this field.
  • Speaker Bio: As Vice President for Public Policy, Robert Cresanti directs the Business Software Alliance's (BSA) worldwide public policy agenda. Formerly the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the Information Technology Association of America, he focused on IP issues and directed/quarterbacked all political strategy for the association. In addition, he managed all legal affairs and served as a member of the Board of Directors.

Friday, November 12th: Field Trip to the Organization of American States in D.C.!
  • Time and location: The trip will start at approx. 9:30 am at the College Park Metro Station and end around 3:30 pm.
  • Destination: We will be visiting the Organization of American States at 10:30 am and Africare, which are both located in downtown D.C. We will have lunch together after the events!
  • Transportation: Public transportation/D.C. metro
  • Content: IEFS members will visit the Organization of American States (www.oas.org) and Africare, a non-profit organization promoting sustainable development. The OAS portion will include a brief tour of the spectacular building followed by a speech by the Director of Sustainable Development. Africare (www.africare.org) will introduce IEFS members to a non-profit work environment and a unique approach to economic progress.

Tuesday, November 30th: FEAST FOR FUTURE EXECS!
  • Time and location: 6 - 8 PM 3rd Floor Atrium VMH
  • Content: IEFS hosts an international potluck to introduce all executive positions to current IEFS members. Remember: ALL EXECUTIVE POSITIONS ARE OPEN FOR ELECTION! Any IEFS member can run for any position. Learn about the various open executive positions and sign up to run for a spot on the IEFS executive board! Please bring any food you like to the event, so that the feast is truly a feast!

Wednesday, December 1st: J.P. Morgan Chase
  • Time and location: Beginning @ 6 PM, VMH 1524
  • Content: IEFS co-sponsors this R.H. Smith Signature Event with one of the most renowned and active employers of business and economics majors at UMD. Several JP employees will talk about issues regarding global financial markets, career paths at JP and challenges ahead for the financial community.

Tuesday, December 7th: IEFS Officer Elections
  • Time and location: 5 - 6:30 PM, TYD 1118
  • Content: ALL executive positions will be up for reelection! This is your chance to assume a leadership position in one of the most prominent and best-run student organizations at UMD. Free snacks and drinks will be served!

Sunday, January 2nd: Washington Redskins!
  • Time and location: TBD
  • Content: Yes, the semester is over, we know. But have you ever wanted to be at a game of the Washington Redskins and be an active part of what's going on there? IEFS gives you that chance. On January 2nd, you will help the Redskins organization promote season tickets for part of the game and then watch the game live in the stadium! Please email Jen for more info!
