  • Northwestern Mutual Financial Network has previously provided presentations on campus that give students an idea for what life is like outside of college. Nicole Pomponio will cover the below topics:

Thursday, April 10: Professional Event: "Micro Finance Practices" with Guest Speaker Dr. Mau, Prisma, CFO and Chief Operational Officer

  • Interested in Microfinance? Come hear Dr. Kendall Mau, MBA, DBA
  • Bio: A Smith Alum, Dr. Mau has spent the last 15 years working in the field of micro-finance in Africa, Central Asia, and Latin America. He is currently part owner and President of Prisma Microfinance, Inc., legally constituted in Costa Rica, with operations in Honduras and Nicaragua. He is also President of Ohana Management Consulting, Inc., in Mountain View, CA. Through Ohana, he consults in modern financial management and strategic planning for micro-finance institutions in Central Asia, the Balkans, and French West Africa. Kendall holds a BA from UC Berkeley, MBA from the University of Maryland, Certificate of Human Resources Management from UC Berkeley Extension, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He was also a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal and Panama where he worked in Credit Union development.

Thursday, April 3: Chris Warner presents "The Rest of the Story", a Shared Summits K2 Expedition
 
  • Time and location: 7:00 PM in the Hoff Theater at the Stamp Student Union
  • In 1989 Chris Warner founded Earth Treks, Inc. and established it in the Washington DC area in 1990.Based on Earth Treks' success, in 1999 Chris was chosen by The Baltimore Business Journal as one of the Top Forty Under Forty business leaders in the region. In 2005, he was named one of "Twenty Five Business Leaders We Admire" by SmartCEO magazine. Along the way, Earth Treks has won awards from Inc Magazine and many community groups and praise from politicians, industry peers and educators.

Tuesday, April 1: Volunteering with Safe Passagesnts
 
  • Time and location: 5:00 PM at the information desk er at the Stamp Student Union
  • Safe Passages is an after-school program designed to help troubled high school students. Mentors and/or tutors in the program meet weekly with teens to provide support and guidance. IEFS' goal as volunteers is emphasize and motivate the students about the importance of education, namely a college education.
  • This is a Volunteering Event and those who attend will be awarded 20 Points.

  • Time and location: 5:30 PM in 3211 ASY
  • Content: If you missed the First Body Meeting this is a great way to catch up with IEFS and meet follow members. Additional announcements will be as follows:members meeting of the Spring semester! We'll be covering the following:
    - Updates on upcoming excitng events!

    - Intorduction to SUSA Assembly and how you can participate!

    - Lingering questions will be answered, including clarifications on point system.
    - Updates on upcoming excitng events!

    A brief questionairre will be distributed about possible sites to visit on our upcoming NYC visit.
